IEEE – 125 Year Celebrations at Bangalore
August 29-30, 2009
IEEE Bangalore section was one of the eight cities chosen to celebrate 125 years of IEEE. Being honored with IEEE Global event to be held in Bangalore, the Bangalore Section Executive Committee under the leadership of Mr. K Ramakrishna decided to make grand celebrations throughout the year but with focused events on 29th and 30th of August 2009.

The grand celebrations at Bangalore were designed around the highly charged evening where around 750 distinguished guests: Industry captains, Eminent personalities from academia, Invited Guests and IEEE leaders from India / from around the world , converged at Hotel Lalit Ashok along with the IEEE members from Bangalore section.
The evening was graced by Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam – Former President of India, Mr. SK Chaturvedi – Chairman of Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd, Mr. Kris Gopalakrishnan – Chairman of Infosys Ltd, Prof.V.K. Aatre – Former Scientific Advisor to GOI and Prof. H.P.Khincha – Vice-Chancellor of VTU Karnataka. IEEE leadership was represented by M. John Vig – IEEE President 2009, Mr. Y J Park – IEEE R10 Director and Mr. Ramakrishna K – Chairman, IEEE Bangalore section.
The talks on topics from Nano-technology, Smart grids, Globalization & Innovation and Education in India were engrossing with a fully packed hall of 750 enjoying every minute of the program. Leaders from IEEE highlighted the goals and achievements from global, R10 and Bangalore section level to all present.
The dinner which followed gave ample opportunity for everyone to connect and network embodying the spirit of IEEE.
Workshop on Human Values in Technology & Management, Gnana Jyothi Auditorium on 30 August 2009
Modern world is so focused on advancements in technologies which drive the individuals to forget the human aspect of these, if not given a value for. IEEE Bangalore section took the leadership of organizing a workshop focused on young professionals highlighting the essence of values and ethics in technology and management domain. The response was very encouraging with around 400 young participants staying till the last and cherishing every moment of talks and interactions. Prof. S Sadagopan from IIIT-Bangalore organised the workshop along with Mr. Ramakrishna K – Chairman IEEE Bangalore section.
The workshop was inaugurated by His Holiness Shri Shri Ravi Shankar from Art of Living foundation who gave wonderful insights on values and the role of technology. IEEE President,Dr. John Vig presented the IEEE views on this topic.
The program featured speakers of very high profile and energy which will be cherished for a long time. The distinguished speakers were : Mr. N. Vittal, IAS (Retd) (Ex-Chief Vigilance Commissioner, ex Secretary Telecom & Electronics, Government of India), Mr. S.K.Chaturvedi (CMD, Power Grid Corporation of India Lmited), Prof. Indiresan (ex Director, IIT-Madras), Dr. V.Prithviraj (High Court of Orissa), Dr. Art-Ong Jumsai (Director, International School of Human Values, Bangkok) and Dr. T. Hegde (Director, Narayana Institute of Neurosciences )
18th IEEE Bangalore Section Annual Symposium 2009 at Hotel Solitaire on 29 August 2009
The 18th Annual Symposium of the IEEE Bangalore Section was held on August 29, 2009 (Saturday) at the Solitaire Hotel, Old Race Course Road, Bangalore. The Annual Symposium is a yearly forum for research in the emerging fields of engineering. The aim was to address the emerging needs for innovations in Computing, Communication, Signals, and Power. ENC2SP 2009 gave a platform for aspiring engineers, researchers and students to discuss their findings.
The symposium was inaugurated by Dr. John Vig, IEEE President and the proceedings were released by Prof. Janina Mazierska, past Region 10 Director.
The plenary talks were given by Prof.M.Narasimha Murty, Chairman of Department of Computer Science and Automation, Indian Institute of Science and Dr. Dinkar Sitaram, Chief Technology Officer, Systems Technology and Software Division, Hewlett Packard, Bangalore.
Nearly 100 participants attended the symposium and over 80 papers were presented in this forum.
